Niamh’s Poem

At last year’s Light up a Life event, Niamh spoke about what it was like to lose her Nan and how Birmingham St Mary’s helped, and you can read her wonderful speech here.

Niamh came back for this year’s Light up a Life and shared with us all a special poem she’d written and here it is…

Our Loved Ones Went to the Sun

Am I right that when our loved one goes,
There is somewhere that they chose,
Somewhere better than we could ever imagine,
Somewhere up above the stars,
But on their last hour of their last day,
Our loved ones went to the sun.

They never picked when they would go,
Or how they would leave,
But they soon said a sad goodbye,
To our beautiful world outside,
But on their last hour of their last day,
Our loved ones went to the sun.

If they could have stayed,
Where would they be today?
On a beach somewhere warm,
Or possibly at the bingo hall,
But on their last hour of their last day,
Our loved ones went to the sun.

They always had their funny moments,
They always had their OMG moments,
They never showed they were letting go,
They just carried on as normal to say hello,
But on their last hour of their last day,
Our loved ones went to the sun.

Moms, Dads, Grandparents and siblings too,
Are all up there watching over us,
And soon will be me and you,
We are never separated from them,
But on their last hour of their last day,
Our loved ones went to the sun.

Always remember you are loved,
From those up above,
They will always be your guardian angel,
They will always make their way for you,
But on their last hour of their last day,
Our loved ones went to the sun.

Thank you for sharing your special poem with us Niamh and thank you to everyone for supporting the Hospice this Christmas.
